How to Tell Your Pet Needs Emergency Care

It’s usually easy to tell when your pet is not acting as he or she normally does, and we understand that this is cause for concern. When you call us, one of our staff members will ask you to describe the symptoms your pet is experiencing, which will help us determine whether it is necessary to bring your pet in for emergency or critical care.

However, if you witness your pet experiencing any of the following symptoms, we recommend that you bring him or her into our health center immediately:

  • Abdominal swelling
  • Bodily or eye injuries
  • Coma
  • Difficulty breathing or rapid panting
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Excessive diarrhea or vomiting
  • Inability to properly balance
  • Inability to urinate or defecate
  • Lethargy
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Pale gums
  • Seizures
  • Sudden onset of weakness
  • Temperature of less than 100 degrees or more than 104 degrees
  • Unwillingness or inability to stand or move

Additionally, if you suspect your pet ingested poison, it’s important that you bring him or her in for immediate treatment.

When you bring your pet into our Liverpool office for emergency care, we will get right to work diagnosing the problem and providing an effective treatment. Give us a call at (315) 766-2178.
